Max RAM in Motherboard
Hi All
Somewhere in here I saw a thread about putting adding more RAM than the nominal maximum. Is there any way to know if this is possible other than trying it?
According to system analysis software my mother board is as follows
Property Value
Manufacturer Dell Computer Corp.
Serial Number .. .
North Bridge Intel i845PE Revision A1
South Bridge Intel 82801DB (ICH4) Revision A1
CPU Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.53GHz
Cpu Socket Socket 478 mPGA
System Slots 4 PCI, 1 AGP
Memory Summary
Maximum Capacity 1024 MBytes
Memory Slots 2
Error Correction None
At present I have 2 x 512MB chips fitted
thanks for any comments

If you go to this web page they will scan your pc and tell you what ram you need and how much your pc will allow

I think it was probably me you saw saying that...
The Problem with crucial it will tell you what the maximum amount for your board as per it's specs, which is 1GB as listed above, but as I said on another thread, those specs are often based on the maximum memory module size available at the time but larger ones will invariably work.
Unfortunately there is no definite way to find out apart from try it and see, though you could try simply googling the dell model number and maximum memory to see if anyone else has put more in.
That said, I'd bet my last pound on it taking at least 1GB in each slot with no problems as there are other motherboards specs listed with the i845PE north bridge that are stated as taking upto 2GB
