How many ABer's will it take to help me change a lightbulb?

or lightbulbs really, I have two central light fittings that have three arms/branches each, they use SES candle bulbs. As these bulbs are getting harder to source and are getting more expensive, I wondered do you think it will be ok to replace the candle bulbs with low energy bulbs, will there be any problems from doing this. I was originally going to replace them with a central ceiling rose and pendant fitting and revert to using a lampshade, but it occurred to me that using low energy bulbs might be a way around this.

Make sure the light bulbs are not too long, low energy bulbs tend to be slightly longer.
