Wickes was founded by Henry Dunn Wickes in Michigan, USA in 1854. More than one hundred years later Wickes opened its first store in the UK in 1972 at Whitefield in Manchester. The concept was launched as a joint venture between the US group, Wickes Corporation, and the UK builder’s merchant, Sankeys. The company now has more than 190 stores across the UK.
