It will fail to ignite with no apparent reason and I have to press the reset button.  It will then be okay, and then fail again.  There seems to be no particular lapse of time between this happening.

have you checked the pressure, you should be able to adjust this yourself (prob a small tap on the pipes under the boiler) ... no an expert but have mine set at a respectable 2 (not sure of the units)
you need a new thermocouple b and q 6�

I agree with fraserjim - it sound like the thermocouple.

(Only a girlie, but a plumber's 'mate', and you do pick up stuff!).
