Last Nov. 2010 I claimed £35 for a lost Rec. Del. from the Post Office. They followed up with a request for proof of value of contents which I sent in Jan. (The contents were covered - I acertained that). Since then no reply to any customer service messages quoting their ref. no. Now then... If I just lodge a small claim for the amount and hope that in their usual inefficiency they ignore that too - will I get judgement by default. it would teach them a lesson - but can I do that?

Yes you would get judgement if they don't respond or attend. You will hen have to enforce it.

Thanks - thought so. Would be suprised to get a defence within the 14 days. They're hopeess.
I know several people who have lodged a claim but I dont know anyone who has actually been paid! They usually ask for the original paperwork then say they havent received it and when you send copies they say they dont accept copies. Useless.

Well, thanks all for that. I can't see how they could ever get out of a county court judgement (no matter what the original facts were). A jugement is a judgement. Will keep you posted!
I've claimed, davypops, for stuff which went missing in the post and/or got damaged in transit, they paid up OK so I don't know what the problem might be with your claim. They do give a likely timescale on the form - it's not quick because they have to track through the (non)delivery from when you posted it to where it might have gone missing. Have you phoned them? I got better responses on the phone than via the website.

ZebUk - a salutory story - I would never have vital computer data in one place only, it's been said before, to sensible to back it up in a second place too!
