Examination results / certificates

I am about to be made redundant and am currently in the process of compiling a CV. The problem is I don't have my A Level certificates and I can't even remember the grades! I have checked with the examining board who state they will not issue replacement certificates unless your old ones were stolen or destroyed (by fire etc) and you must provide proof!! They will send notification to a prospective employer of your results but you have to pay 30 pounds+ each time which is going to work out pretty expensive if I apply for a couple of jobs. I can't even remember whether I even collected the original certificates and have lost them or whether I didn't even pick them up!

Has anybody else had this problem and how did you resolve it? Is it possible to find out exam results from any other place than the examining body? The exam results are from 1990.

Any help would be much appreciated.

You could try asking your school, although my school only keeps records for about 10 years. They can't provide certificates, but could send you a letter confirming your passes and grades, as mine did for my O Levels.

To be honest, assuming that you have worked for the last 15 years, I don't think any prospective employer will want to check them. It really only makes a big difference if you are around 18 or so and its all they have to go on. I would think your 15 years of jobs and experience more than make-up for it. Besides, I doubt most people would remember half of the stuff they learned unless they used it regularly - and the lessons probably bear little resemblance to what kids learn nowadays anyway so are obsolete - employer are aware of this too.

I would include that you have them and just write 'pass'. Most employers won't even get that far, they will know by everything above it whether you are suitable or not.

I have a degree, a hnd, a city and guilds, a btec, an ND and an FD and never once have i been asked for a certicate - and I am 34

Can you contact your college?  They must have a record somewhere so that they can compile their list of how many people got A grades, etc. 

Your certificates should have been posted to you from the Exam board, so I don't think it can be a case of not picking them up. 

You could always fib to the College and say that they were destroyed or lost in a house move so that they are more inclined to help.

This is a ridiculous situation. If you do want the certificates call up the board again and be firm. I lost all mine (think I threw them out) and needed them back, and when I called them they were happy to issue new ones for �20ish fee. The board combined all results onto the one certificate. Job Done. I think you need to speak to a supervisor. If they can tell employers that you passed each time, there is no reason why they cannot issue you with the documentation. Call again.

Pay what you have to. After all you lost them or didn't collect them. Personally I wouldn't even consider you for a job.

I'm sure I'm not the only person who for one reason or another no longer has examination certificates.

Did you submit an application form/cv for your current job? If so, the company's personnel section should still have it on your file and it may well have the grades on it.

Sorry folks but I passed my O levels in 1968, my A levels in 1970, got my degree in 1974 and my teaching certificate in 1975. I don't think that bits of paper are necessarily worth that much but I still have them all.

I have had the same problem and was also wondering if enyone else was having the same problems! about 4 years ago when i was having a career change I needed my certificates GCSE Btec and HND. A very messy split from an ex partner resulting in destroyed belongings aswell as all my certificates. i managed to obtain the job I wanted without my ertificates but i still need them now as i have taken a career break to have children, maybe my next employer will insist on seeing my certificates. i am in the process of trying to obtain replacement cert. from edexel.if any luck i will let you know.
