My other half has a Mercedes C180 06 reg. We always service and MOT at Merc garages, which has proved to be very expensive. We had it serviced 4 weeks ago and it cost us £900!!
They said that the brakes need replacing, which has confirmed what we thought, but they said that the discs also need replaced? They quoted us just shy of £400, which we're reluctant to pay as it seems as though they charge an awful lot for 'Man Power'.
Is this usually a requirement when changing pads?
I might ask our local garage for a quote for brake pads.
When brake pads had asbestos in them brake discs hardly ever needed replacement. Since its removal they do seem to wear out. I had to have them changed on my Skoda Superb at 80,000 miles. There was a definite lip on the disks where the wear started. I'd definately get a quote from your local garage whose hourly rate will be a lot less than main dealer. He should be able to get the parts cheaper too.
just bear i mind garages are always trying to upsell a second opinion is always worthwhile unless you can see them for yourself , if they are in need of replacing its fairly obvious. The problem is if you just change the pads and the discs are fairly worn it will wreck the new pads which will then come back to the dealer as a complaint..
Merc dealers £120 + vat per hour in my area...
