'Security Alert'' message.

When I switched on my computer. a 'Security Alert'message advised me my computer was infected with viruses. it listed themby name As a silver surfer I was concerned. I have always has AVG protection and found it very good. I ran a complete scan and this showed everything in order and no viruses. Why send out a message that seems to be untrue. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's not a virus, it is malware. It will be a scam trying to fleece you.

Whatever you do, don't enter your credit card number.

I am not an expert, and others can advise better how to remove it from your computer.

However I would suggest using Malwarebytes, which is free software. Usually however this infection will stop you doing much with the computer.

Delet all content (that will delete sucessfully) in Temp Folders
Delete/Clean Temp Internet Files/folders from Browser or Windows Explorer
Switch OFF System Restore
Do a FULL system scan with AV.
Do a full system scan with Malwarebytes. Let it deal with any infections.
Reboot and turn System Restore back on.
