Microphone in cd player

can i buy a microphone for my daughter to plug in cd player and sing along? would it go in the hole for earphones? Not sure how it works!? TIA xx

The microphone would need to feed into the CD player's amplifier circuit, with a mixer built into it in order to get the balance between the outputs from the CD and the microphone correct. Normal CD players don't offer that function.
The earphone socket is solely for output from the amplifier circuit; it's not an input.
You'd need to buy something like this:
