Bit Fick Reely
How does this site work? I know how to get a question answered but what is all of this subscription business about?
Who answers the questions? I tried a pretty obscure one and a web-site answered. Is there an army of little blokes and dames out there poised and waiting around the clock?/ And appart from all of that who IS paying

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.I'm no website, believe me, Rutineli! I take it you are referring to my response to your question in History & Myths about the French wooden horse. There, I told you the answer and provided a link to a website which I thought might help you further. But that certainly doesn't make me one!
As In A Pickle has said, all people who respond to queries here are just ordinary folks who want to help. (By and large, that is...there are some plonkers, too.) Were you happy with my cheval-de-frise answer? If so, then I'm content.
Anybody can ask a question and anyone can answer it.
There are a few wonderful, intelligent, humorous, sensitive, compassionate and downright good looking bods who take time out from their busy work schedule to help people with opinions, guidance, technical issues, homework projects and general pointing the questioners in the right direction. Some of us are professional in our fields, or can surf the net easily to find an informative site, others know where to buy a pumice stone at 3pm on a wet afternoon in Billericay. We all contribute.
Obviously with such a site, you get the odd bunch that just aren't helpful. But we tend to ignore those and they go away - no doubt you will find them eventually if you stick around.
We don't get paid, and we rarely get thanked. But for some of us, 3 stars meant we did something right by somebody today.
