Good evening
Not sure if this is the correct place to ask this but here goes, a friend of mine has sent me a letter containing some money that he owed me via post office recorded delivery but he has put the wrong initial on the letter ( D when it should be B) will I still be able to collect it on monday when I go to the delivery office or will it be sent back? I have the note left by the postman and plenty of ID but none of it has my first name starting with a D as this chap only knows me by my nickname which does start with a D.

A recorded delivery needs a signature, not neccessarily the signature of who it's addressed to. I'd just take something proving you live at the address.
Yes you should be fine.. I've had OH collect a parcel addressed to me before and he has a different initial.

Thank you both, you've put my mind at ease. I was in a bit of a flap when I first saw the note.
normally if someone else collects it, they're suppossed to have id in the name of the person they're collecting for as well as themselves. You might be ok providing you have something with your address on it as mentioned already.

Just for future reference, money sent by Recorded Delivery isn't actually covered, so in future I'd make sure to send it by Special Delivery.
OH was once told that to collect an item on my behalf he needed to produce MY i.d.
Choosing the easier option of having it re-delivered, it duly was, and signed for by a neighbour at her address. So that's all right and very secure, then. Idiots.
ClareA, Recorded Delivery isn't offered as secure, hence the price. The sender is paying a small charge on top of the stamp to make sure they get a signature to prove that the item has arrived at the address it was sent to, that's all. Special Delivery is the only way that is "secure" and trackable.

Thank you all for the help, I was wrong with the question title it was infact Special Delivery, I thought it was the same thing.
Anyway I've requested redelivery on Tuesday so hopfully all will be OK then.
