Hi there,
I have some movies burned on to DVD's. they will play on my home dvd player but not on a new portable DVD player that I just bought. Without getting too technical with me (I am a bit of a technophobe) does anyone know what the problem might be.
I burnt them on my pc, they play on that and on my home dvd player, but not on the portable dvd player. I am burning them on Roxio creator but there is no 'finalise' option. Should I try burning them on some other 'burner' place!
Did you make/author the dvd's .. or are they original .. from elsewhere?
Maybe portable does NOT play different region .. and these are region 1?
Run the dvd ifo in Ifoedit to see.
Some DVD players are fussy about the brand of discs they will play. You could try a few different types to see if that makes any difference.
Also, are you converting the files to DVD format, or are you just burning the video files to disc without converting? Your PC and some DVD players will play these unconverted files, but a portable one might not.
I found saving the photos to the Windows Photo Gallery and burning from there always seems to work on every player I've used.
I tried Roxio but had trouble.
I am downloading Dvd rips...do I still need to convert them to DVD format? Loosing my reason now and looking at a brand new portable dvd player purchased for the children for holidays....and it is useless!!!
Yes, DVD rips will need to be converted. Presumably they are in xvid/divx format, which some players will play, but your portable doesn't. It isn't useless, it's just more restricted in which formats it can play, which is probably just standard DVDs.
If they are DVD's they are already in DVD format.
Look at the file type .. if avi, divx, mpg or mkv, you need to copy back to HDD and re-author to DVD using (free) DVDFlick.
Personally I use latest ConvertX (which is the best by far) Free version of this leaves a watermark.
