My Cannon gas cooker has gone on the blink, and no idea whats wrong, it was fine this morning.
The gas supply is coming through no problem, but the digital panel is not
lit, which usually shows the time, but that's out. I Have changed the 3a fuse, plugged it in but it went bang, tried another fuse did the same thing. Have phoned Indesit company but they have quoted £ 134.00 flat charge, and a probable five day wait, which is impossible. Any advice before i call someone from Yellow Pages. Please

If gas is coming through then why not manually ignite? This will keep you going temprorarily at least.

Albags, mattk, gas engineer said the resistor had gone, its now fixed, ignition works fine, but am concerned that no one said anything about VAT when i called, only extra if there were a part needed, which it didn't, so as well as the £80 quid which i was quoted over the phone, now shelled out a further £16. I can't say i am happy with that, and i did say that to the guy.
But he said its standard practice?
Yes .. Loads do that now .. although it used only to be trade costings that were 'plus VAT'
They do it to keep the prices 'sounding' low.
Sorry Em.

Glad you're all sorted now tho.

Im glad its done, fingers crossed, by i do feel a bit peed off, £96 quid instead of original quote of £80.

It just come to mind maybe can claim it back from Insurance, no idea, but im going to ask. I am still nettled by this.
seems a bit steep--i paid £52 for a new element that was including vat
Claiming on your insurance is probably a no-no, ie it wouldnt be viable for you

1. You pay an excess - probably around £60 possibly higher so IF you could claim youd get back hardly anything - and then your premiums could rise due to a claim

2. This would probably be classed as wear and tear....and your insurance co will probably decline it for that reason
Question Author
if the resistor had blown, as he said, not sure how that is fair wear and tear, it was working fine before, the other worrying factor is he said it can go like that if there a power surge, which can't be proven. i have asked for the insurance form anyway and will see what they say. I also asked the Gas people to ring me and explain why they didn't mention the VAT on the phone, what a surprise that they haven't called back.
