I have an ALBA DVD59 DVD player. I have an Artificial Eye Michael Haneke collection of dvds and the subtitles at the bottom of the screen cannot be seen. On my "Spiral" dvds the subtitles are visible at the bottom - but when the credits are running ( at the beginning ) the subtitles are at the top of the screen and cannot be seen. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It sounds like your TV picture is zoomed in slightly, cutting off the top and bottom. There's normally a button on the TV remote that cycles through the various zoom settings - stretch, zoom in, etc. I often find that the "auto" setting is usually the best. There could also be settings on the DVD player for something similar. Check the picture options in the menus.
