I watch DVDs on my i mac but even with the sound icon turned to maximum it still isn't loud enough for me, can I increase volume any other way. Thanks for any help

System Preferences > Under 'Hardware' > Sound > Output volume: slide the slider to the right...

I've already done that but it's still too quiet
If you've maximised the sound on the DVD playing software as well you're only other option is to get some independent speakers via the USB, Firewire or headphone ports...
Or...

Download VLC Player and play your DVDs through that. I've found the volume playback louder than other DVD software... it's free:
