photoshoot...fault on every single shot...
16 Answers
should they demand the photographer fix it?
a band had a photoshoot and over 500 shots taken...however one band member was wearing a very distinctive military style coat...with rows of buttons down either side of the front...however on almost every single shot, one button is undone.
it was a day long shoot and not once did the photographer or assistant notice this and put it right...
the buttons are about an inch wide, so not exactly small and unnoticable! and there are only 10 buttons so the gap with just the button hole showing is pretty obvious.
(it was outdoors so no mirrors for him to see it himself)
of course, I am amazed none of the other band members noticed and pointed it out either ...but surely the photographer should have said - it is her job surely to compose the shots, check how things look and get the best??
she is an student so maybe she was too shy to say, but still ... the shots simply look stupid and amateur because of it...in can really be used for any promotional material...
however they did pay all her expenses to do it...in a time for pictures arrangement... as many photographers do...
even now she is publishing them online, and hasnt even occurred to her that this is a fault and reflects on her.
so they'd like her to use photoshop and copy and paste a nearby button over the hole ...its a simple job but will take a little while to do as there are a lot of pics - they dont need them all doing of course, just the good ones.
do you think this is a fair request?
thanks

Maybe becasue it's for a band she thought it might be the look, but it shouldn't take long to change the images.
Have you seen any of the edited images, they normally look alot different?!

she just sent them all over, warts and all...she hadnt edited any of them
she has since played with a few and linked to their facebook etc...but still has not fixed this
but its clear she can use photoshop so shouldnt be too hard for her
i dont think shed have thought it was deliberate...it just looks daft and clearly an error ... and even if she had thought that, again surely its her job to check...
they want to use the shots for whatver they need, but cant really use most of them because of this.... they could get someone else to fix it... but really why should they have to?

no i agree snags, he himself and the band should have taken a bit of care of their appearance too and checked...but without mirrors they probably figured shed tell them any problems...or that she'd fix them later...
i cannot believe none of them noticed this...its so utterly obvious... though he himself wouldnt have been able to notice it easily by looking down.
they were all probably too busy thinking about posing and their own clothes etc.

no she contacted them out of the blue and offered a photoshoot in return for them paying all her expenses... so they agreed.
normally the time for photos deal doesnt involved money at all...each get their mutual and equal benefit from it...but really she got what she wanted and they havent got anything as the shots are mostly useless...they have wasted time and money and dont want to pay out more money to get them fixed...
(i could fix them, but it would take me a while and its nothing really to do with me so i think she should do it)
if nothing else, its a learning curve...if she did that for a proper paying client they would refuse payment...

So it's the photographers fault that they didn't do up their buttons? Sorry but I don't see it. if the quality of the pictures wasn't good then that's the photographers fault! It's like ordering steak and the complaining when it comes because you are a herbivore! Anyway with pop star types how could she possibly know what the garb should be?
yes it most certainly is down to the photographer....it is the photographers job to run the shoot...to art direct, give direction, to control what happens and what is seen in the photos and make sure everything is ok...that includes things like this.
otherwise you are just pointing and clicking - and wheres the skill in that??
if something looks wrong, they are suppose to correct it...not just take loads of useless photos!
do you expect models to stop shoots every 5 minutes to check their own hair and makeup?
do they run off-set to a mirror wheneven they please?
Or do they rely on the photographer to tell them when they need a touch up and a stray strand of hair is on their face?
it is their job to 'compose' shots...its like me painting a picture, but painting in the edge of my easel into the painting, just because its there...or painting the lump of bird poo on their shoulder in, or something...
your daft analogy makes no sense at all
if i went for a photo shoot and looked a mess on all the pics because no-one told me my hair was sticking up or something and they just took the pics anyway...id be furious.
and please dont try to tell me she thought it was his 'fashion'...thats nonsense...if it was the top button i wouldnt mind, but its in the middle...

This appears to be a conspiracy between circumstances and inexperience.
The photographer is obviously new, and maybe she simply didn't notice - quite easy to do if she's concentrating on lighting and positions etc.
I think a degree of responsibility lies with the band - it's reasonable to expect adults to be able to dress themselves properly.
The comparion with a fashion / model shoot doesn't fly - it's not the model that's being photographed, it's the clothes, so obviously a stylist will be on hand to supervise.
Band shots are just that - and at this level, where a band is having a student do shots, they cannot expect Annlie Liebowitz levels of experience and professional know-how.
A reasonable request is some photo-shopping of the final selections, and everyone can learn from this experience.

absolutely andy, there is certainly blame on both sides...
i just think she should have been looking out for things like that too...as its her that is 'creating' the artwork
but not all models are photographed to sell clothing...there are many other types of shoot
ill suggest they ask her to do the best ones
