Are there any stamp collectors out there?

Where the heck do l put this question, as l can't see anywhere obvious, so thought l'd start here first.
I haven't looked at a stamp catalogue for, ooh err, more than 20 years now, but as as far as l can remember, you looked the stamp up, and it had two categories shown, which were namely new (fine) or used, and gave the relevant prices for them.
Stamp dealers know exactly what to do and what to offer, but l just want to get the gist of things first without having to take my stamps to a dealer who will rip me off!
If it says the stamp is worth £x pounds in fine condition, is that what l should advertise it for?
Regards

You can advertise a catalog price for the stamps but don't expect to actually fetch that price. One way to get a sense of the market is to follow some Ebay auctions. The market for stamps is down right now, along with the rest of the economy.
I recently sold a collection to a dealer who offered me a premium for 20 or 30 nice pieces but offered half of face value for the rest. Given that he now has to bear the inventory risk and work on selling the things it seemed like a reasonable deal.
