Duplicated in this section from How It Works:

I've bought a pair of designer specs on eBay but will obviously have to have my own prescription lenses fitted. They will be rimless which may or may not add to the expense but I was just wondering if anyone has ever done something similar and wanted a rough ballpark figure as to the cost.

I'll obviously shop around and ask for quotes but thought I'd get advice from this valuable resource first!

They would be single vision glasses, not varifocal.

Thanks in advance for any replies/tips/similar experiences.

Don't know the actual costs, but they won't make it easy or cheap to do this- supplying the frames is where most of the profit is.
I asked the same question myself at Specsavers last week - I had some SS prescription sunglasses frames which I broke on holiday in Santorini and urgently had to replace the frames at an opticians out there at a cost of 80 euros. They are Italian designer ones which I really love but SS made it as difficult as they could for me to have new lenses put in these. They said they would do it but if they broke they would not attempt to mend them as they weren't supplied there (fair enough I suppose) but the cost was prohibitive, not worth doing so I didn't go ahead but chose some from SS range which I don't like half as much.
I wouldn't have gone to specsavers then, ann - I've had far better personalised service from my independent optician.

Thanks for your answers.

I'll try some of the independent opticians locally. I've already got one designer pair from Vision Express so may try there too. I'm due an eye test soon anyway and my prescription may change slightly so I'll see what they say.

See this thread I did ............. I'm about to have a meeting tomorrow with SS as I bitterly regret choosing the frames I did (my fault I know) but also they seem to have the prescription totally wrong.
