Washing machines these days are cold fill only which I find ridiculous. What would the consequences be, if any, if i was to pumb it into the hot water supply instead?

Assuming your hot supply has enough pressure to operate the system then it would mean rinsing the clothes with hot water.
Why do you find it ridiculous that modern machines would only heat the water they need inside them rather than wasting two full pipe runs full of hot water every time you use them.

Plumbing it into the hot only will mean that you won't be able to do cool washes and (as above) you'd also be rinsing in hot water meaning you use loads more hot water than you need to.
Not to mention that today's detergents are meant to be dispersed and dissolved in cold water before being warmed up slowly - this is part of the washing process.
Most new washing machines have wash programmes that will wash at colder temperatures than your hot water supply. On our machine you can select no heat altogether should you want to.

In Australia the majority of housewives wash in cold water normally. Their detergents are made for cold water washing. I tried to the wife to use it but naturally she declined. "It won't get the clothes clean". In other words she doesn't pay the electric bill.
Your silks would be ruined and your woolens would only be fit for dolls clothes.
not only all of the above but you have the great possibility of shortening the life of your machine due to the build up of scale, as it forms quicker in hot water
