Windows media player

I appear to have accidentally scrubbed my media player (windows 7). It refers me to media players that cost. Is there a reliable free one I can download, or, as a friend suggested,can I use the disc that came with it for just downloading the media player or will this scrub everything???

Check out the free edition of "Real Player" sometime , personally I like it better than Windows media player. Seems to load up much quicker also has additional features .been using it for years now with no problems at all.
