The rings go over the pole ..the clips clip to the headers .. or use the curtain header tape hooks which hook into small rings on the larger pole rings (if you have that type)

Curtains tend to come with a tape sewn to the top that provides the loops for your hooks to go into. I assume the hooks are what you mean by 'clip' ? The rings on the rail should have am eyelet screwed in for the hook to go into also.
Not necessarily.
The commercial window pole rings .. yes.
Many modern rings have dangling mini bulldog-type clips, which just clip on the curtain headers.
I have some buttoned goblet-headers (each stuffed to fill) which need long pronged supports and hook onto the small ring .. which attached to the larger ring.
A lot of info here ..

Am inclined to believe that I could use a plastic 6 hook but am also trying to see if I can attach the little clip (its 8 shaped made of wire and with difficulty could be attached to the taped header) on the ring to the curtain header tape and do without the white plastic ,,,,, thanks for all help
