I have been told that a first class letter can take between one and three days, and a second class letter between three and five days !! Has anyone had a first class letter delivered as late as three days later ?? To the same country ??

However, I know that any mail posted to my parent's house in commuter-belt Surrey, not far from London, when posted 1st class can sometimes take up to three days to be delivered. This is because the local area delivery office in their area (Guildford/Woking) decided to introduce deliveries on alternate days, so 1st class post is taking longer to arrive. No consultation with the public, this was just a decision made by Royal Mail! I'm not sure whether it is still happening but I think it is a bit of a cheek when you are paying for 1st class post and expecting it to arrive within 1-2 days.

Postdog - they need you back.
Standards are slipping - 3 days from the bank to here - all of 4 miles......though I managed to get a 1st class letter to Edinburgh and Cambridge within 2 days. However, then they let themselves down with a 4 days from Salsbury and another local 1st class one for a new accout cheque book sent out in Thursday and not yet arrived - to the point that the bank covered a bankers cheque charge this morning......

If I send post from where I live in Lincolnshire, either first or second class, it arrives next day to almost anywhere except london and area around the M25.
If I post from London, then it arrives anywhere several days later. probably the volume of post, but yes, the service is getting worse by the day.

I sent a recorded delivery from Yorkshire to Wales last November. It still has not arrived. Nor has anyone signed for it. I complained to Royal Mail who informed me. "It goes through the ordinary mail system until it gets to letter box then it is signed for" Only no one signed for it because it did not arrive. Post office said "you should have sent it special delivery" This service costs £5 something for letter weight. While I would never call a post man a thief I think some possibly are. I would be interested on Postdogs take on this.
TheWinner, I sell worldwide on eBay and most stuff is fine but I have problems with China and Hong Kong items often get lost, so now I only send to those places by International Signed for.
The Royal Mail does not guarantee delivery times for 1st and 2nd class even if it is recorded . The times are just an estimate, ONLY Special Delivery has a garanteed time but as has been said it is over £5 just for a letter.
