I am using Excel 2003. How can I work out the total between two times. For example if I put in 09:00-13:30, what function can I use to work out that the total hours is 4.5, or can this be done?
Excel stores times internally as a fraction between 0 and 1 with 0 being 00:00 and 24:00 being 1 , so 12:15 is stored as 0.510416666666667, multiplying by 24 makes the fraction back into a proper value in hrs, so....
0.510416666666667 * 24 = 12.25 (or 12hrs and one quarter of an hr)
You must use 24hr time
You must use : as a separator
Cells you enter the time in should be formatted hh:mm:ss
Cells with results that are likely to go over 24hrs must be formatted [h]:mm:ss
Thanks for those tips Chuck and thanks Mark et al aswell, you really put effort into helping and I am extremely appreciative. That's not to say I'm 100% sure what I'm at yet but I am getting there.
