Vacuum cleaners

I need a new vacuum as the one I have doesn't pick up very well.

Firstly, I have a new carpet and it doesn't pick the fluff up. Secondly, I have 2 cats and their hair doesn't come up either.

Can anyone suggest a good vacuum which will solve these problems? I have a Dyson now which seems to have given up. I've spotted a new Dyson - DC41 - but there seems to be lots of other vacuum's around, and advice on Dyson's seems to be a bit mixed.

Any help is appreciated.

A little spritz with a small steam cleaner might reduce the static so the pet hairs come away easily - works for me.

I don't have any pets but bought the Miele cat and dog and it is superb!! Recommended to everyone I know!

I've said this many times before - get the Meile cat and dog. I have three cats and I've had this vacuum for several years - brilliant. Dysons are rubbish. IMO.

Evian, it might not be cheap, but it's worth it - with cheap ones, you have to replace them every year.

Its just that ill be finally moving into my own house soon so with everything else ill need to buy £200 is a lot of money for a hoover. Seems to be a popular choice though.

Decent vacuum cleaners don't come cheap. The best ones, according to Which?, are Sebo, Miele, Bosch and (yes) Dyson. All a bit pricey. We have two Dysons- both excellent.

We're in the market fro a new vacuum cleaner and I have decided on the Miele cat and dog, Dysons are good but are far too heavy in my opinion.

It's a lot of money for a Hoover certainly. But a Hoover its not. It's a Miele Vacuum cleaner and it will pay for itself over the years. You will spend less by buying one of these than 2 or 3 others!

We (I) just bought one and I read 100's of reviews and the best overall is the Miele by a mile No it is not cheap but when you use it ,it brings a smile to your face ( So the wife says);-)

I have had a dyson in the past but it was heavy and when I used the hose the tension on the hose was too much and I would fight to get the hose to extend but the dyson would just roll towards me and be like a dog humping your leg. I have a new home now and all new carpet. the carpet fitter said dysons with there moving spinning brushes pull all the fibres out your carpet, and it is best to get one that just sucks. He said the henry hoover is the best. I did my research to find many people say they are brill and most carpet experts. I have been enjoying my hoover over last month, suction has two power levels so you can vac curtains/rugs/ soft furnishings without sucking them up. I went for the commercial henry from amazon which has extra long cable, to allow me to only have to plug in once per floor of house. Cable rewind very useful will never go back to heavy dyson.

I have had a sebo for 3 years now, brilliant!! Pricey but well worth the money. I had a Dyson which was the worst hoover I have ever come across damn thing drove me crackers!!

me too, miss meg - I bought it based on the advertising, for me it was rubbish and so heavy. As prudie says - the hoover war rolls on!

lol boxtops, nice to see you again. I gave my Dyson to my son, he was a student at the time, he wanted to sell it but decided he could not off load that kind of rubbish.
