Failing to report for bail

If, in the UK, somebody is arrested, and is bailed pending further enquiries, the fails to return at that date, what happens?

Assumning they have a given an address, but have moved from that address over the bail period.

Nothing happens. If the local nick have the officers they may send someone for a quick check at the last known address or bail address. This is unlikely though. In most cases the culprit comes to the attention of the police in other ways...shoplifting, vehicle crimes, insurance fraud, burglary etc and then the cycle continues. Welcome to this world.

And adding to the answer, should you get stopped for the most petty offence in future....Forget any chance of bail, steal say a CD, you are banged up 'till the hearing as it's justified.....

In the U.S., you would have the opportunity to meet Bruno and Lefty... admittedly at an entirely unexpected moment.  You would also enjoy meeting their pet... a dog... about 75 pounds, don't know the breed, but he is distinctive in that he has only one eye, a large chunk missing from one ear, three legs, "fixed" several years ago and goes by the name of Lucky. He's never really got over it, so not the best mood... He'll be sharing the back seat of a 1955 Cadillac El Dorado with you on the way to collect their finders fee from the bail agent... enjoy the ride!

The police can arrest you without warrant if you are released on bail from police detention, subject to a duty to attend at a police station and you fail to attend at the appointed time. You must be taken as soon as possible after the arrest to the police station to which you should have reported.
