Trouble with HP Deskjet F2480
5 Answers
Hi, I have a problem with my printer and I wonder if anyone has any idea what is wrong with it. It makes a very loud noise when you press the print button. It really sounds like a machine gun. It is out of guarantee, just over the 1 year.I think the problem started when some paper got jammed. Apart from the terriable noise I am happy with the printer. Hope someone can help.

Either you have something jammed in the gears or some part of the mechanism has fallen apart. The same noise happened with my Epsom printer, after a while it spat out a gear and fell silent and useless!
Have you looked in the user manual for instructions on how to remove the back paper door? This will then enable you to see if you have completely removed the jammed paper. It is poss that there is a bit left in which is stopping some gear from engaging properly.
(Further to Tridy's reply, some years ago I had a HP 840c printer which made a funny noise prior to "spitting out" a spring and a small unusual shape piece of plastic - which did not appear to be broken. I emailed HP tech support with a photo of these bits and asked them where they might have come from and what their function was. The answer I finally got was, "Search me, guv. If it's still printing, carry on with it!" I did and it lasted another 4 years!)
