Surround Sound Delay what doe's that do

Hi people On my remote control for my HiFi there is a button marked DELAY ,could you please explain what this is for and how do I obtain the best from it . Thank you so much.

It is there in case when you are watching tv and the lips do not move in sync you can adjust to bring the lip movement ino sync, happens with Sky especially on HD sometimes so much out that you cant adjust enough.
The delay on my surround system is to set the delay on each speaker to compensate for the differences in distance you may have to place them away from you.
What does the manual say about it?
dont bother with it ita millisecs you'll not notice any change. on my Yamaha you dont anyway
