Fill kettle to max level. Boil. Pour onto ants nest concentrating on any obvious entrances. Try not to look closely.
Brutal, but quick and non-toxic.
open the nests to expose the larvae and watch the birds feasting
I use something called ant exterminator..from B & Q.. a clear sticky liquid that the ants run through and take back into the nest where they all perish after a day or two !!!
Ant-killer powder. Any gardening outlet or hardware shop.
there seems to be an abundance of these this year..
I use boiling water on slabs but would'nt it kill the grass if you put it on the lawn? Just curious
Agree with Foxy. It will damage your lawn.

Thanks guys for all your help. Tried the boiling water first which did give the birds a feast but didnt cure the problem so have had to go with the ant powder which seems to have worked a treat. There were 5 nests in all (think we must live on a giant ant hill lol) and the lawn has taken a bit of a battering but hopefully it will eventually recover. Cheers again :)
