Just like the smoking ban I think that chewing gum should be banned from all public places like trains pubs etc. Just having got off a train and finding gum stuck to my trouser s I felt under the train table and there was loads of gum stuck to the underside of the table. I have noticed this disgusting habit in other public places i.e. cinemas and restaurants. Do you think that using gum should be only allowed in your own home?

They aren't now but you wouldn't think so. Get them to spit it out and they bite off and spit out about a quarter of it.
I think I used to have a sneaky chew occasionally though when I was at school but I would have stopped once I'd been caught

I would ban it too. I have to say I never allowed my children to have it as apart from the fact people seem to make the most awful noises when chewing it they then seem to think it is Ok to stick it anywhere. I live in a rural area but there is a lampost at the bottom of our lane and someone is systematically filling one side of it with chewing gum . There must be 30 or pieces of it on there all in nice neat rows!

i don't think it is the gum, or the chewing of it that causes offence as much as like dustypuss found, the general means of disposal ,ie sticking it anywhere. Tables chairs , nowhere is free of this disgusting habit.

I can't stand to see chewing gum in peoples mouths while they're talking and don't get me started on Alex Ferguson!!!

Factor ..the one small difference in "my day" and now is that then I would get six of the best for even being spotted eating in class...mmm...wasn't worth it then and I suspect the same would apply today.....

I hate the stuff too.
If you do happen to get it on your clothing (a tip for you) put the item in the freezer overnight & in the morning you'll be able to pick it off.

a pal in the states has sent me a message with photo but I dont know how to get it on here, apparently if little birds mistake dropped chewing gum for bread and if they eat it it gets stuck in their gullet & gut and they die a nsty slow death poor things.

Are you all being serious?!!! Banning chewing gum is just silly! I chew gum all the time and I don't spit it out on the pavements or stick it anywhere.

You can say the same about any piece of litter really! Lol!!

I've never actually seen anyone drop gum on the pavement, then how come the pavement is littered with the stuff, trodden into the tarmac? Vile stuff, there is nothing worse than a person chewing gormlessly (especially with their mouth open).

I would also ban it, I hate to people chewing the stuff, especially Women!!
I would never be seen with a woman chewing gum, it just looks so cheap. Its like cows chewing their cud.
