I've got a few avi files I want to burn to CD, i have 700MB CDs, and the files are roughly 350Mb, that means I can fit two on a cd obviously. Problem is, that a couple of the files are a little bigger (e.g. one is 358Mb). Does anyone know of a program that I can use to slightly reduce the quality and size? I'd rather not have to trim the edges of the file, although will if I have to. I'd like to just reduce the Kbps of the video or something to shrink the file. Thanks in advance. Oh, and free or trial software would be most appropriate. Thanks

Realised I posted this in the wrong topic. It would have been better in Internet & technology obviously. Sorry!

you will probably find that you will be allowed to fit slightly over cd limit but these files will not be viewable in a dvd player.

if you are trying to create a vcd that is viewable, then you will find that only 1 of these files will fit a cd once it has been re-encoded

you could try the divX encoder; free trial. it lets you specify the size of file to output. else you can enjoy messing about with bitrates (many free bitrate calculators out there)
sorry, the encoder is called dr. divx:

Thanks a lot for the help. Dr. DivX did the trick, allowing you to specify the file output size is a great feature.
Why don't you compress them with something like Winzip?
