how do i make a comment on face book

Where do you want to make the comment? On your wall? On a friends wall? Or just a general comment?

You go to their wall, and add a comment.

Go to your friends wall; find it by clicking on their name or use the search box then when you get there, there will be a large white space, click in that and type then hit 'post'

i know it says make a comment but i write and nothing happens

is your mouse pointer in the box?
You have to physically click the box

when someone makes a comment many people answer and under neath in a narrow box it says comment i have tried writing in this box but nothing happens

Are you sure you are on that persons friends list?

(You should hit enter when done in that box BTW)

Don't hit share. That will shre that post with all your friends. You just need to hit enter after you type your comment.

it's under the write here box, but not when commenting on a thread already in progress

it'll share it anyway Evian, the only option if making the first post on a friends wall is share

If you dont want to share with your friends friends you need to do your settings so that that cant happen

That's weird, I went back to see if it was different for timelines and old style but they both say share for me. What does it say for you?

For a while they had it that the comment was posted when you hit 'enter' but I thought they were getting too many complaints about half finished responses and new paragraphs?

Well, yeah, it comes up on your friends pages that you've commented on a particular post but sharing is not the same as commenting is it. Whatever comment you type won't be entered if you just hit share.

p.s. the share option only tends to come up on photos and videos on my timeline. Not status updates.

If you are the first poster on your friends wall, the 'share' option is there
The post will come up in the ticker at the side of the pages on FB, inc what you posted

If you reply to a first post, then there is no 'share' button, you have to hit enter (or ctrl + enter if you want to start a new paragraph) but that post will also come up in the ticker at the side of the page

I think the OP is not on the friends list of the person they are trying to post to
