Error message on a HDD recorder

Hi, I need some advice about a Toshiba RD88-DTKB HDD and DVD Recorder. (Discontinued).
With this machine you can record from the telly to the built in hard drive or to a DVD. This can be done via the Electronic Programme Guide. The problem occurs when the timer is set in this way earlier in the day for e.g. an evening record. At the time of recording A message appears stating "due to technical difficulties the service you require is currently unavailable. Please try again later".
The programme IS actually recorded but the message is also recorded and fills the screen. This happens occasionally - perhaps 3 or 4 times a year but is most annoying.
My thought is this. If the EPG is available when the timer is set it allows you to continue but then the EPG becomes unavailable and the timer gets confused and thinks it cant record but it can because the progamme signal coming through, just not the EPG signal.
So what I need is A) someone to confirm that my theory is correct and B) advice what I can do about it. I'm thinking a signal booster might do the trick.
Any ideas anyone?
Thanks in advance
