Changing channels on Sky

I've seen that you can buy a little dongle/IR thing, that plugs inbetween the Sky box's second output and a second tv, which allows you to change channel on your Sky box from a different room - I was going to try to set up an elaborate pathway for IR using mirrors, however don't think this would work, and so quite fancy trying to make my own!!  Does anyone know anything about it?
