Sigma Lens

Some years ago I bought a Cannon EOS 100F SLR, 35mm camera, in a package which included two Sigma lens a 35-80mm an a 70-210 both auto focus. I'm considering uprating to a Cannon digital and would like to know if the lens are compatible with the modern digital cameras in which case I can get away with just buying a body.Any info would be gratefully received.

You'll need an adaptor, the autofocus may not work, and because of the difference between 35mm and digital cameras the lenses will be the equivalent of around 1.5 times their magnification ie 53-120 and 105-315.

Thanks dave, I was just hoping i could get away with using the old lens, it's not just the expense but what do you do with the old stuff? Nobody but collectors want the old format, and they only want to pay peanuts for what was in it's time a fairly expensive bit of kit.

All true - I have cupboards full of old Olympus OM kit.

I may be wrong about needing an adaptor, Canon is not my brand, but the magnification factor is about right and the autofocus seems to be a bit of a lottery for all 35mm lenses.

Shouldn't need an adaptor. I use old 35mm lenses on my Canon and they go straight on. As Sunny-Dave says the autofocus may not work though.

The lenses will fit as they are still the same mount (EF), however older Sigma lenses don't talk nicely to modern Canon cameras, Sigma used to re-chip (for free!) lenses of theirs which could be made to work, don't know if they still do this though.
