Need a plumber

I have a normal toilet. I had to change the float ball. Anyway I remember it came with a plastic pin/screw which I dropped but it came with spare which I put on. Ever since I am the only person that can flush the toilet.
Having in laws down and want (need to) sort this out.
What is this pin called as do want to buy the whole float ball etc just for a plastic pin. And is there different pins for different pressures?

As TB says, hard to flush toilets are normally due to a split diaphragm

No help here, but we have a flusher with driving instructions too. There is something wrong with the plunger/seal that stops the waterflow to the bowl outlet and after when visitors flush there is a constant drip. We know how long to keep the button down so there is enough water flowing to clear the bowl but let go before the cistern is empty so there is a healthy audible 'clonk' to seal the flow, and he, no drip.
