how do I wire up the coax cable to the rear of the coax socket (surface mounted)

Depends a bit on how the fittings are arranged in the socket, but basically

1) Strip back about 40mm of the outer sheath. This will expose the 'woven' wire sheath.

2) Depending on how this wire sheath is fixed to the socket, you can either unravel it from around the cable and then twist together to be fixed by a screw, or some sockets have a 'C' clamp that grips the whole cable and thus grips the wire sheath as well (if you see what I mean)

3) After you have exposed the inner plastic core (by getting the wire sheath out of the way) cut about 10mm of the plastic off to expose the central wire. This should fit into the central screw hole on the socket.
