Simple cordless telephones

Is there such a thing as a pair of simple cordless phones for ordinary home use? I’m not interested in intercom, conference calls, call logs, flash signals and other technical gadgetry, even less so a fifty page instruction book. Living a simple life, all I need is to be able to make and receive calls, volume control and an easy to access list of contacts (phone book). BT 1571 provides a good recorded message service. Comments and suggestions welcome.
