Barking to Marble Arch

can some kind soul help pls ... bro-in-law starts work next week & needs to travel the above underground route Barking to Mile End on the distrct line then change to the Central line to Marble Arch, how much will it cost per day with Oyster card, he will work 5 days a week but some weeks will include weekends, would it be cheaper to get a weekly/monthly ticket instead ?
I have tried to help him but have got confused with the different zones.
An advice would be helpful, thanks in advance.

He'll be travelling within zones 1 to 4.

You really need to know the hours he'd be travelling to make a proper decision as peak times are dearer than off peak. Peak hours are 6.30-9.30 and 16.00-19.00, so if you travel within those times you'll pay more, with an Oyster, that'll be £3.60 each way, a weekly ticket will be £41.80 and a monthly £160.60.
