Has my wife gone mad?

Hi could someone answer this question so that i can print it off and show her?

I went to boil the kettle and in she came like a wailing banshee shrieking "Don't do it!" as if the place was filled with gas and i was about to press an ignition button. I shouted "What? and she said "it's full, pour half away as it'll be cheaper" I laughed and said "It doesn't use up more then 240v at a time so it doesn't matter whether there's a thimble full or whether it's filled to the brim as the kettle can't suck out more electricity from the national grid as the wires are only built to be able to take 240v at a time and unfortunately we don't have a magical device that can do otherwise" She then started harpng on about some advert which she'd seen which honestly put a bee in her bonnet about all of these rubbish "Energy saving" tips which seem to cost quadruple more then the current methods!

Does anyone know whether this really does save money and if so how much money does it cost to have a full kettle boiling 2 times a day every day of the year and how much does it cost to have a half filled kettle 2 times a day every day in a year and exactly what the saving is so i can show the dozy mare when she comes home.

Many thanks for your help!

Don't they all?
Course it does. Power is in Kwh- I think power is volts x something (amps)
The less water you boil the less time the element is on and the less electricity you use QED
Well it's logical that a half-filled kettle will take a less proportion of time to boil so will save on electricity. I'm with your wife, only boil what you need.
Takes longer to boil a full kettle than one that's a quarter full. So it costs more
Try it.
Of course it saves money. It takes less time to boil less water, and you pay for electricity in Kilowatt Hours which is current against time.
The dozy mare is right btw.
So are you gonna print this out, and show her?
I think captaincrunch knows she's right really.
I wouldn't pour the water away because I am on a water meter, lol!
Show her this one CC:

Mrs CC, you are correct, the OH is wrong?
much as I hate to say this but your wife is right (will now wash my mouth out) it is cheaper to boil half the amout of water.
You might have to spend the night in the spare room or on the sofa!

How much does it save then? If it's something stupid like £3.77 a year then why am i going to go through the hassle of walking to the sink filling the kettle, walking to the kettle switching it on, then remembering this energy saving tip, so switching off the kettle, walking back to the sink pouring half the water away, then walking to the paper towels to wipe of any excess water then walking back once more to the kettle again to switch it on?
Never disagree with a woman, we are always right!
You can save even more if you go for paper free billing.
£3.77 is just as intelligent as any other figure......leave £3.77 alone.

But cupid, she had the house glazed, the walls filled in with insulation as well as the roof etc... Thousands was spent but the bloody bills are the same, what the hell was the point of months of not being able to take a step in your home without falling over workmen, tools and insulation for nothing to have changed!

It's no wonder i'm a skeptic now.
as you seem not to care about saving just fill it half full when she is around, solves the problem and stops her moaning , win win.
It's sceptic, by the way, and if your bills are the same you're doing very well. The cost of energy has shot up.
