Rover 75

Has anyone had a rover 75 diesel(BMW)engine...or know anything about them.
My husband owns one and red warning light`charging fault`and alternator light keeps flashing,alternator has been checked and battery checked and car running ok...help please..is it still safe to drive.
He is a taxi driver so the car is out income ,it has been off road 3 times this month because of this.

I've heard that if the belt that drives the alternator, power steering pump etc etc has come loose and out of position, this could be the problem. The belt itself has no adjustment but if something like the camshaft pulley damper has collapsed this can cause a lot of movement which is why the belt may be loose.

If the car has failed to start(( it has been off road 3 times this month because of this.)) Alternator.

To add, ask him to check the connecting wires to the alternator.
