I lived in the USSR when self-service supermarkets were just starting up and had automatic tills, a totally new experience for shoppers and for the cashiers.
The cashiers were very suspicious of the tills and used to double check the till total with their abacus.
I would really love to take my ancient old Soviet abacus to the supermarket and push a few of the counters backwards and forwards to 'double check' the till total.
I don't know how to use it, but no matter.
Can you imagine the reaction?

If you were in front of me in the queue I would be more than a little miffed! lol
lol, love it!!

Got fed up with the snitty cashier on a Saturday at the supermarket checking my notes, so when she gave me a tenner change I held it up and asked if I could use her UV checker.

I hate using those 'express' automatic checkouts; takes twice as long.

'Unexpected item in bagging area' ??? What The Funicular???
They seemed to have been tweaked now. I can't remember the last time it said 'unexpected item in the baggage area'

That was Tony's bucket.
I bet the checkout operator wishes she had a pound for every time shes heard that one alba, probably happens 20 times a day. Silly things I'd like to do? Say "don't worry, I will pick it up" every time it see someone drop litter. Ignore someone who asks me a question then expects me to wait while they finish their phone conversation for an answer. Say "you're welcome" when someone doesn't say "thank you". And when someone's child is running riot, and it's parent tells it not to do that because "this lady will shout at you" I would love to say "no she won't, it's your child - YOU shout at it" !!!!!

(actually, I have done a couple of those)
Annemollie! I work for the Bank of China, and even in this day of technology you can go into the bank behind the scenes say in Shenzhen, and hear the quiet click click click of the abacuses rather than adding machines or calculators!

Silly thing I'd like to do - put on my daughters six in heels and try and walk in them - goodness knows she's fell off them once already - and that was even BEFORE she got to the pub!
I have always wanted to streak during a really good thunder storm.

I posted before about an experience in the BoC is Guangzhou and the two men opening the deposit accounts.
If memory serves me right, has the BoC in HK got two cannons on the roof pointing towards HSBC?
