Since having my computer repaired (something happened to the motherboard) I see that I have two unfamiliar programs. One is ‘LogMeIn’ and the other ‘VIA HD Audio Deck’. I have only my desktop and a laptop, so what is the point of LogMeIn? As for the HD Audio Deck, is that any better than Windows Media Player? I'm thinking if uninstalling both but don’t want to cause loss or damage and would be glad of any advice please.

Logmein is used for remote access usually by support people. They can take direct control over your computer. I would advise removing it.
The VIA HD Audio Deck is most likely a result of manufacturers Audio drivers being installed during repair, presumably to suit VIA Chip based technology on the motherboard.
HD Audio Deck provides the drivers and "set up" options for the sound card on your computer.

If you delete it you wont get any more sound.
As VHG says - HD Audio deck is part of the software for your soundcard. If you've had a new motherboard it probably uses HD audio, whereas your old one probably used AC97. Don't uninstall it.

If you have some kind of support contract, then you can leave LogMeIn installed, and configure it so that anyone trying to connect must ask your permission at the time. I have access to nearly all my clients' machines via LogMeIn. On the other hand, if you don't have a support contract, remove it.
