Why do they never advertise motorbikes on t.v? It works pretty well for cars.

The competition among the myriad car manufacturers chasing a massiv slice of a huge market makes TV advertising, however apparently irrelevent to the product, worthwhile. Motorbikes are manufactured by two or three main companies who have the market sewn up, and therefore have no need to attempt to create new interest in their particular brand. Popular products don't need to be advertised.
You'll find the occasional bike ad shown during specialist shows like Motorbike GP coverage on the likes of Eurosport, but most bike races in the UK are shown on the BBC, who aren't in the habit of accepting commercials! The bike manufacturers don't seem to have found any non-specialised shows that fit their audience profile. Instead they concentrate their marketing spend instead on the motorbike press and point-of-presence ads at races. This presupposes that most bikers are race-heads which, sadly, they appear too be. Cruiser/ tourer/ retro bikers (to use accepted terminology) like myself, don't get advertised to -- but maybe there aren't enough of us to make it worthwhile.
