How Can Australia Pay Higher Salaries

Every day on morning TV we see prospective emigrees lining themselves up for employment and wage rates almost double that of UK. Admittedly food bills are higher and property values are compatible with UK but overall they are much better off financially.

Because they are not in the Euro being 'led' by another organisation.

Much (but not all) of the aussie economy is growing; largely because their mineral deposits are being bought up by the Chinese

Australian has not had the financial problems we have. It still has a resiliant economy expecting to grow more than every other major advanced economy this year and still has very low unemployment.

lol Murray I must admit that when administering a project in Australia quite a few of my colleagues lived in Oz for 6 months. One of our guys married an Australian girl. When I asked her what the attraction was, she said, "Have you ever met any Australian blokes?"

I've been to plenty of 'godforsaken' places in Australia

And it's full of especially annoying flies
The most beautiful beaches are plagued by jellyfish so you need to wear a lycra bodysuit (not a good look for most people)
Most people live in dreary suburbs of boxy houses crammed together on small plots
And there is a regular sequence of droughts, floods, fires, tornados or killer heat - most people in the north spend their summer indoors where it's air conditioned

Zeuhl I must agree..............after watching numerous 'Wanted Down Under' programmes I couldn't believe the lack of decent gardens in quite expensive houses. They all seemed built on top of each other (unless you lived in the wilderness.)

most suburban homes are built on modest size plots, exacerbated if the house is single storey and so has a big 'footprint'

When I watch that, most families appear to be staggered at the cost of living over there - perhaps that's why pay is higher

My daughter spent a year working out there last year with her boyfriend.

She was amazed how expensive it was.

They rarely went out to the pub as beer and wine were so expensive.

They often stayed at home drinking as it was cheaper.
