Number Plate Cloning
hi all, i've heard about this before but last week i had letter from DVLA demanding that i tax my car immediately as they have photographic evidence of my car on the A40 near Oxford and according to their records the car is declared SORN. they are right, the car has been sorned for the last 2 years and I do live very close to the A40 but i'm in Wales at least a 3.5 hour drive from Oxford and the car has not been off my yard since the day i returned the last tax disc. have any of you people gone through this and what was the outcome? thanks for any comments.

Should you write to point out their error, someone will take a look at the actual photo and notice that the vehicle does not match yours.
Even with human intervention, the system is not infallible.

Yes. I got stopped by a police patrol. They asked whether the car was mine, and weren't satisfied with a simple "Yes". They demanded documentary proof, as if we all carry log books in the glove compartment, but I did have my driving licence on me and they could relate that to the DVLA record of registered keeper. The reason for all this was the plate had been cloned. What was odd in this is that my plate is personal, the equivalent of PUL 1, which is not a number which witnesses to a crime are likely to forget. But the truth is the villains aren't bank robbers but petrol thieves defeating service station cameras or just people trying to avoid prosecution for traffic offences.

I would inform the DVLA that a mistake has arisen, give them the details and tell them to update their records so you do not get anymore letters, which I think you will.So then in writing inform the DVLA that if you have to write anymore letters regarding this matter you will invoice them £100 each letter.
