have laptop, advent with windows vista.have to keep plugged in as battery icon says 1% available, but not charging. do i need new battery or new laptop? any help greatly appreciated.
Try continual disconnect & connect of charger, every 15mins for about 4hrs to see if it increases the charge. Also wipe the battery metal connectors with tissue to remove any debris & static.
More than likely the PSU, people do tent to wrap the cord around the main supply unit for storage and the cable breaks inside, plug it into laptop if the power light doesn't come on its the PSU, universal ones are about £30 or look on Fleabay.
If the charger cord was broken and the battery says 1% it would soon shut off altogether or probably wouldn't power up in the first place. I would say the battery's gone and you need a new one. How old is the battery?
have never changed battery (don,t really know much about computers,as is pretty obvious!)have had computer for about 6 years.anyone know cost of battery?
If the laptop is continuing to work when plugged into the mains electricity line, it is obvious that the transformer is still supplying current but the battery is failing to charge. Consequently it is my opinion that the battery has failed and needs to be replaced.
If you are using mains all the time but the battery remains on the laptop then think your battery has had it. I kept mine on and have since been told that when using mains the battery should be removed and just used now and again to recharge it.
I made that mistake but I have never bothered getting a new battery as I have always got a mains supply. What I did find on the odd occasion I did use the battery, battery life only lasted approx 2 - 2.5 hours. Mine is an Advent K1501.
