Excel Is This Poss ?

hi peeps, my friend asked me an Excel question to which i havnt the foggyest idea so i asked him to email me and i would post it here hoping some kind person might have a scooby as to what he's on about, thanking you in advance .........Gaz

I have been trying to find out how to set up a formula that will enable me to drag and populate other cells. I have entered the following in Cell C2 on a particular spreadsheet: ='Payment record'!B3
I then want Cell D2 to replicate what is at 'Payment record'!B4 and E2 to equal B5 etc, etc. I know that I need to use $ to fix the Payment Record column at B whilst the row number advances. But if I insert the $ before the B as follows - ='Payment record'!$B3 it fixes the row number as well as the column letter. I.E. cell B3 gets repeated if I carry out the drag action. If I insert the $ between the B and 3 then it has the effect of fixing the row number rather than the column letter.

Can you please advise what I need to do?

Have you tried $'Payment Record'!B$3
I have a feeling that the $ should enclose all items which are to remain constant.

To fix row, column or both, highlight the area in the formula and press F4. Keep pressing it and it selects row,column or both.
