Since signing to a guarantor for someone's rent I have been claiming incapacity benefit. The Lessee has not paid all the rent, am I liable even though my circumstances have chaged

Dear Ceasar,

I do appreciate your situation,as I am Incapacity Benefit myself!

However,I would think that as you signed as a Guarantor the Landlord would not really be intrested in your present circumstances.All I can suggest is writing to them and explaining,and hopefully(whatever the debt) is they would let you pay it off as a small amount at a time.

Can the Lessee not pay ANY of it,I don't think much of them if they  got into this situation knowing you were on Benefits!

Be careful Ceasar if you offer to pay a small amount at a time you are accepting that the debt is yours.

Go see the citizens advice bureau or from your yellow pages select any solicitor who gives you the first hour for free, and explain that you signed in good faith when you were able to pay, but now on benefit you simply cant afford it.
