does anyone know if I have to pay to renew my crb as it is due for renewal according to my employer. also can I claim this against tax, thanx

Your employer must make the application. If you were simply applying for a job, the employer could require you to pay for the check but if you're already in employment any ongoing costs associated with that employment (such as DBS checks or keeping First Aid qualifications up to date) should be met by the employer.
Some agencies require that agency staff pay for the CRB check by reimbursing the agency- either by cheque or as a deduction from payroll. Some employers may do the same but most will bear all the cost.
I believe that if you have to pay yourself you are not allowed to offset the cost against tax- my agency lists the things that can be offset but specifies CRB check costs as something that cannot be offset against tax. You could always check with HMRC though in case my agency is wrong.
