4,001 letters - there you go
Break your post up and add 'to be continued ' on the first part.
Or just put in a link to some long article in the Daily Mail (other national papers are available)
If you type 4000 letters and then post an answer straight away you could continue your question.
Although there's always a chance someone will try to answer your first part before you finish. (Does that make sense?)

Thanks mamya. Do I put the second part in as an "answer"?

It was not anything serious, just a long joke, which I pasted in and then found I could not submit it because it had over 5,000 letters in it. I tried shortening it, but it was impossible so I had to abort and was then left wondering if there was any way I could still post the long version.
Post part 2 as your answer.
To speed things up, write part two in Word or something and copy and paste it into the answer box on AB before submitting..
You cheat and use text speech.
Just a friendly word... with those loooonnnnggg posts and answers, my eyes usually start to glaze over after a while, I presume it is the same with many members.
